Emirates Schools Establishment was established based on Federal Decree-Law No. 15 of 2016 issued by the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, which came into effect in January 2021. In line with the wise leadership's vision and the goals set for the next fifty years, we at Emirates Schools Establishment aim to develop the public education sector and implement development programs at public schools and kindergartens, providing quality education to all our students.
Department Definition
Candidates must have a sound understanding of the mechanics of the English language, with strong written and verbal communication skills. It is essential that the candidate is equipped with teaching strategies that promote best practice. Candidate should possess a positive “can do” attitude. English Teachers work in teams, led by Lead Teachers, and supported by a Sector Specialist, with each member contributing to the continuous improvement of teaching and learning materials and support for students. English Secondary Teachers are responsible for the successful implementation of English Language Curriculum across grades 1-12 and are required to do the following listed below.
The main responsibilities for this role include:
- Model and support a learner-centered, hands-on classroom environment that promotes learner engagement and participation.
- Ensure that students reach the expected age-related outcomes for English.
- Gain an understanding of working with Arab youth who will learn English as a second language.
- Create a positive, active, language-rich learning environment.
- Support the learning process by identifying needs and guiding students to achieve their learning objectives.
- Ensure assessments are delivered according to the assessment strategy and guidelines, in a valid and rigorous manner.
- Maintain an accurate record of student achievement and performance.
- Create positive and effective relationships with colleagues.
- Work extra hours to provide extra-curricular activities.
- Travel as required to events, training and provide cover away from their school.
- Be smart and always present a positive image of themselves and the English Department.
- Integrate with colleagues from different cultures.
- Perform all aspects of their role with an understanding of the wider strategy.
- Plan effectively and manage their workload.
- Gain the confidence and respect of Emirati personnel at all levels.
Skills
3+ years of full-time teaching experience (if having no Teachers License).
2+ years of full-time teaching experience (if holding a certified teaching license) for non- UAE Nationals.
- License Required: UAE – TLS / MOE Teaching License; United Kingdom – QTS or EYTS; Ireland – Registered member of the teaching council; Scotland – Full professional registration; UAE – Professional Educational License; Canada – Teaching License; New Zealand – Fully Certified Teacher; Australia - Fully Registered Teacher.
- Bachelor's degree (English, Languages, Linguistics + CELTA) or related field.
- Possess excellent knowledge of the subject matter.
- Excellent level of English proficiency (EmSAT 1675 or IELTS Band 7 Academic/ 7.5 General required before application).
- Experience with second language learners.
- Experience with international curricula (SAT, AP, IGCSE, A-level).
- Maturity, intelligence, energy, and a good sense of humor.
- Diplomacy and tact, Outstanding initiative, and enthusiasm.
- Moral courage, integrity, patience, resilience, and flexibility.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to Islamic culture.
